Reinforced concrete (RC) has been commonly used as a construction material for decades due to its high compressive strength and moderate tensile strength. However, these two properties of RC are frequently hampered by degradation. The main degradation processes in structures carbonation the corrosion rebars. scientific community is divided regarding process which causes structural damage. Some researchers suggest that weakens structure makes it prone rebar corrosion, while others does not damage enough cause corrosion. This paper review research work carried out different on structures. factors contribute this will be discussed, alongside recommendations improving decrease process. rebars, passive layers, volume expansion steel oxidation, crack growth also discussed. Available protection methods reducing carbonation, such coating, cathodic protection, modifier implementation, reviewed. concludes describing most significant types caused testing protocols, mitigation against
